Konstnärens rum (Das Zimmer des Künstlers)

Konstnärens rum (Das Zimmer des Künstlers) references the German artist Georg Friedrich Kersting’s (1785–1847) portrait of his artist friend Caspar David Friedrich. At the same time, motif and title refer back to Nordström’s 2023 etching Der Künstler im Garten (The Artist in the Garden).
As is often the case in his work, Nordström grants the viewer a brief glimpse into a larger, surreal and unknown narrative. The crumpled up pieces of paper on the floor bear witness to the intimate process of trial and error which constitutes the artistic process; in this sense, this etching can be understood as a rumination on the nature of creativity itself.
