Monotypes
Working with monotypes allowed Emma Kohlmann to draw from her practice as a painter while, at the same time, adding an element of chance to the process. Monotypes are unique prints, created by painting directly on a flat surface and then transferring this image onto paper by running it through a printing press. This technique does not aim at creating an image that can be reproduced flawlessly. Instead, it adds an element of chance and unpredictability which sets it apart from a regular painting on paper.
