Jan Svenungsson | BORCH Conversations and book launch

Jan Svenungsson, Making Prints and Thinking About It, 2019
Jan Svenungsson, First Chimney – Stockholm, 1996-1998

BORCH Gallery is delighted to welcome Jan Svenungsson for a conversation with Dr. Andreas Schalhorn, Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, and Niels Borch Jensen about Making Prints and Thinking About It.

A selection of Jan Svenungsson’s print projects with BORCH will be on display from 12 through 18 April 2019.

How does the experience of making art interact with thinking about it, and vice versa? In this personal story of printmaking, Jan Svenungsson uses his own work as a catalyst for a wide-ranging discussion of the role of art under the rapidly changing conditions of the present day—and the near future.

‘FOR ME, MAKING A PRINT NECESSARILY INVOLVES COLLABORATION. EARLY ON, I REALIZED THAT TYPE OF COLLABORATION HAPPENING IN THE PRINT WORKSHOP CAN BE WONDERFULLY ENRICHING. IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO NOT BE ALONE WHILE WORKING ON YOUR IMAGE.’ (Jan Svenungsson, Making Prints and Thinking About It, 2019, p. 9)

Besides sharing his personal perspective on the art of printmaking and art creation in itself, Svenungsson gives an insight into the workings of our print studio in Copenhagen as he reminisces about the collaboration.
