All Thumbs
For All Thumbs, Al Taylor made small drawings on photographs of his own thumbs, seemingly carved on the surface of the nails. A second larger drawing layer was added, seeming to levitate in a three-dimensional space around the depicted hands thus playing with Taylor’s recurrent theme of moving the viewer back and forth between two- and three-dimensions. The format of the prints mimics that of typical family photos, encouraging the beholder to read the thumbs as little figures.
