With expressive gestures, Maria Wæhrens gives the unconscious a physical form.
Wæhrens’ artistic practice is characterized by her deep interest in dreams and inner states that cannot be adequately expressed through language. Aesthetically, she leans on the tradition of expressionist painting and adds to it through recognizable gestures and carefully considered colour compositions.
Maria Wæhrens, born in 1976 in Denmark, lives and works in Copenhagen. She has been collaborating with BORCH Editions since 2023
