Vid heden (At the Moor)
Vid heden (At the Moor), one of the first etchings Jockum Nordström created with BORCH Editions, is an atmospherically dense, compact composition, and the only of his etchings that does not depict people. Nevertheless, the old trees in Nordström’s mysterious moor seem to be animated, their branches resembling arms reaching out to each other as if they were communicating.
What sets Nordström’s 2022 etchings apart is their prominent use of spit bite aquatint, a printing technique that uses brushes and an acid solution on an aquatint-covered copperplate to create a painterly, watercolour-like look. Solely relying on a muted, earthy colour palette, he merges the spit bite aquatint with line etching and drypoint, evoking the melancholic atmosphere of his drawings and watercolours.
