Headlights

A K Dolven’s photogravure Headlights references a series of woodcuts by fellow Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863-1944) entitled Mot skogen (Towards the forest). The subject of a naked woman and a man dressed in black, embracing each other while moving away from the viewer towards the edge of a forest, had occupied Munch for years, and Dolven recreates the image for her contemporaries, illuminating the couple with the headlights of a car which give the print its title.
