Marie Rud Rosenzweig & Anna Stahn | Two Suspects

Rosenzweig and Stahn have created a series of prints revolving around femininity and horror.
A shared interest in the widespread appeal of the unpleasant as entertainment sparked the idea for a joint series of prints. Marie Rud Rosenzweig and Anna Stahn have worked in parallel in the studio to produce intaglio prints based on the same concepts. The series of prints are accompanied by a text written by Anna Stahn.
In total, Two Suspects includes ten prints, five by each of the artists. The series revolves around femininity in a world where the fascination for true crime, violence and the uncanny is significantly present in entertainment culture. The paradox of cozying up on the couch while being entertained by detailed descriptions of horrific crimes often committed against women, transformed the focus of the project to revolve around a more primal fear inherent in the feminine.
Everyday objects play a central role in both artist’s practices. They use the mundane objects that people surround themselves with to discuss broader economies of modern life. Painting is Marie Rud Rosenzweig’s primary medium. Her work exists in an ambiguous field of tension between the beautiful, sometimes dreamlike and the strange and at times unpleasant. Anna Stahn’s multidisciplinary practice incorporates writing, ceramics, and drawing, commenting on human existence and desires. Together, Rosenzweig and Stahn examine gender stereotypes and highlight a stream of aggression that follows the feminine.
