Tal R | Girl drawing Lily

Tal R has created a series of 12 new woodcuts and etchings. The series entitled Girl drawing Lily is based on sketches and paintings made over a period of three years. The artist portrayed women in confined interior spaces. Some were acquaintances, others strangers approached on the street. The awkwardness of this interaction is captured in the works, creating a palpable tension between subject, artist and environment. The portrayed women, some of them shy and thoughtful, others bold and curious, move in and out of abstraction, sometimes merging with the patterned, decorative backgrounds.

Tal R, born 1967 in Tel Aviv, Israel, lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
