Per Kirkeby | Etchings

Per Kirkeby, Untitled, 2016.

Although Per Kirkeby, arguably Denmark’s most famous living artists, announced the end of his career as a painter in 2015, his collaboration with our Copenhagen print shop continues. BORCH Editions and publisher Knust & Kunz are pleased to present a series of ten new etchings in which Kirkeby explores different etching techniques, often combining two or more techniques in one work.

In his prints, Kirkeby translated the explosive surfaces and textures of his paintings into acid brushstrokes, copper sparks and deep scratches. Working with a scientifically educated eye – Kirkeby also held a degree in arctic geology –, his work can be seen, in its abstraction, to be an even more accurate vehicle for rendering environmental processes than naturalism.

Per Kirkeby, 1938-2018 born in Copenhagen, Denmark.
