John Zurier’s work is immersed in material and colour. In his near-monochrome paintings he works primarily with brushstrokes on canvas; his etchings are an abstract play between etched lines and absorbing colours. The shiny copperplate and the physical activity of working on the plate captured the artist and brought him back to drawing. The quality of the etched line and the processes of printmaking fascinated Zurier. His powerful commitment to the graphic medium resulted in a series of atmospheric and captivating etchings.
