Huma Bhabha | Leochicospeedy

The works of Huma Bhabha’s Leochicospeedy-series are dark, impressionistic portraits executed in etching on photogravure. Details of photographs of three playing dogs, which belonged to the artist’s deceased brother, form the backdrop to Bhabha’s characteristic sketches of demon-like figures. Bhabha uses the image of the dog similarly to the way Joseph Buys used the coyote and the hare: as a mediator between man and nature.

Huma Bhabha, born 1962 in Karachi, Pakistan, lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York.
