Frida Orupabo’s exhibition at Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm presents a new body of works including two new photogravures.

On Secrets, Lies and Silence is Norwegian-Nigerian artist Frida Orupabo’s first institutional solo exhibition in Sweden, bringing together new works in the form of collage, video, sculpture, prints and spatial installations. The exhibition focuses on the complex relationships that take place within the sphere of the home, central to our everyday life and in the creation of our identity. As part of the exhibition Orupabo presents two new photogravures Clover I and II. The prints depict the actress Carol Speed portraying the title character in the 1974 blaxploitation horror movie Abby. Orupabo utilises the contradictory potential of her imagery by detaching it from its original context: formerly the object of the viewer’s voyeuristic gaze, the portrayed figure now stares back out of the image.

On Secrets, Lies and Silence at Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm runs until 10 November 2024.
