Danh Vō | 01.08.1945

Danh Vō, 01.08.1945, 2016.

For his new photogravure published by BORCH Editions, Danh Vō uses a postcard depicting a small-scale replica of the Statue of Liberty atop a Buddhist temple in Hanoi. The statue was reportedly placed on top of the temple some time after 1887 during French colonial occupation and then re-located to multiple sites around Hanoi. It was finally toppled and melted down on the 1st of August 1945 after being deemed a vestige of the French colonial government.

Danh Vō, born 1975 in Vietnam.
