BORCH Editions’ Art Basel 2024 presentation showcases the collaborating artists’ wide range of conceptual and technical approaches to printmaking.
Nanna Debois Buhl, Ann Lislegaard and Frida Orupabo demonstrate the relevance of the printmaking medium of photogravure for conceptual artists, applying a range of aesthetic and conceptual approaches: Orupabo assembles digital collages echoing her sculptural practice; Debois Buhl utilizes the haptic qualities of intaglio printmaking to transfer the three-dimensional surfaces of microscopic meteor dust grains onto paper; Lislegaard generates digital images with the help of AI language models.
Intaglio printmaking with copper plates is represented by Mamma Andersson, Andreas Eriksson, and Wardell Milan. Eriksson composes a complex landscape from five sandblasted copper plates, while Andersson and Milan combine a number of intaglio printmaking techniques to elaborate on their practice in other media.
Recent monoprints and monotypes by Peter Linde Busk, Jockum Nordström and Tal R all demonstrate the possibility of playfully embracing the seemingly contradictory notions of seriality and uniqueness in printmaking.
